We may come to counselling
because of a particular problem, challenge or difficulty, for example dealing with a loss or bereavement, or coping with a life change. Or we may wish to explore and
challenge the conditions of worth others may have applied to us in our lives. Through counselling we can learn to enhance our appreciation of self and others, helping us lead more fulfilling and happier lives.
What is Person-Centred Integrated Counselling?
Person-Centred counselling draws
on mainstream theoretical perspectives, integrating knowledge and skills from different therapeutic approaches and offers a non-judgemental
relationship between client and counsellor, in which the client can explore what they need and want, and how they can achieve their goals.
As part of the therapeutic
process a variety of skills and techniques are used to
assist an individual using an holistic model to help assess what is happening within their environment. The aspects taken into account include emotional, cognitive, physical, as well as cultural, environmental and family dynamics - all of which can have an impact on how we consequently behave, values we hold and our belief systems.
The aim of the therapy varies
from person to person, but by brining awareness to what we do helps us to develop our understanding and our own personal ways of relating to others, giving us more freedom in our choices. Often
through finding new perspectives we are able to move forward positively, making changes that feel right for us, developing a sense of self-acceptance along with finding new strategies to deal with
particular circumstances within our
lives. It is hope that clients will gain a greater sense of balance and well-being within their lives.
Within a supportive environment
there is an opportunity to explore your feelings and
thoughts. Talking, being heard, as well as being accepted without judgement are fundamental aspects of a process that enables and encourages personal growth, healing and understanding.
